State Birds

The naming of state birds began in 1927 (or 1926) due to campaigning by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. The last state bird was named in 1973. I started drawing US state and territory birds from curiosity about why a bird was chosen and any relationship to historical timelines. It was hard to imagine that people were choosing state birds during so much war and conflict.
