Aunt Louise-Memory & Detail

This is a drawn series of doll dresses that my [Great] Aunt Louise made and mailed to me when I was very young. I loved getting them and hearing about her life. She was a government health nurse for fifteen years in Bethel, Alaska, in Hawaii during World War II and spent the last twenty-five years of her career at the Diné [Navajo] hospital in Arizona, just outside Gallup, New Mexico, which is when she sewed these dresses. Forty years later, I drew them.

2000, 8 x 10 inches, prismacolor, gouache, pen & ink
