2020 Hindsight

2020 Hindsight began with grandchildren and a sense of urgency. These postcards are photographs of 2020 climate crisis events that occurred in each of the 50 United States. The Climate Report (2019) helped inform my search for images. When first conceived at the start of 2020, the climate events and photographic content was unknown.

The NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information’s (NCEI’s) final 2020 data update “..officially confirm[ed] what communities across the nation experienced first-hand: 2020 was a historic year of extremes. There were 22 separate billion-dollar weather and climate disasters across the United States, shattering the previous annual record....”

For the most part, images without people were chosen. Disparities of climate change impact between domestic and global communities are huge, and yet, we are all in this together.
